Ugh, I really need to update this more often. Here are the highlights of the last week:

- ChaCha has been going really well, but they recently changed their pay structure which has made me less motivated. I've made $400 in about a month, which I was very pleased about. I will probably continue to do it since I have consistently made top guide, but if I ever get dropped down to 0.10 per query, I may have a cow. Seriously.

- The original plan was to pay of debts, get a new car... oh, you know how that goes. I ended up buying a Nintendo DS Lite. Coral Pink! You wouldn't believe how many stores I looked before I found it. I also got "The World Ends With You" which is extremely difficult, but very good.

- I also got some makeup. I'm on a girly streak right now. Hush.

- My first wedding anniversary is on Monday. I know, I can't believe it either. Time flies! Jerry tried to get the day off of work, but couldn't, so we decided to spend the weekend having fun instead. Last night we went out for dinner at Biaggi's, which is a fancy Italian restaurant that we ate at the first time I met him. It was more expensive than I would have liked, but totally worth it.

- My computer stopped working yesterday. This posed a major problem since I kind of need it to work. We went to Best Buy and picked up a new one for a little over $500. It makes me cringe, but I really like it... it's a lot faster and I should be able to work more effectively once I get everything set up properly. Still, it puts paying off debts back another month. *sigh*

- This morning we went out for breakfast and caught the early showing of Wall-E, which was delightful. It was really, really good. After it was over we headed to the mall. I bought Jerry Soul Calibur VI for our anniversary (totally romantic, don't ya know) and he bought me a few pairs of Brighton earrings that I picked out. Got a few cards at Hallmark (lol to picking out anniversary cards together), grabbed some TCBY and then headed home.

- I've been babysitting pretty much full time and will be until the girls go back to school. Jess asked me if I wanted to watch the baby full time after it's born, but I declined for a couple of reasons. The main reason is it's a ton of work. Silly to say that when I've been wanting a baby, right? Well, it's different when it's your own kid. Another reason is I KNOW I'll get attached and if anything happens so that I can't watch it anymore, it will be extremely hard on me. I'm already attached to the girls and I've only known them for a few years. Imagine how it would be raising someone else's child.

- Oh! I know I haven't mentioned this before, but we booked our flights to Atlanta in November. Jerry's friends are getting married and he hasn't seen them in a couple of years. I haven't met them, so I'm a little nervous, but excited at the same time. It should be fun!

I need to go, the kitten is screaming at me to hold him.

I haven't had a "normal" week in over a month. I took on the task of babysitting my nieces a couple of days a week. This requires very early mornings to accommodate their schedule. I'm can't complain, because I'm making around $200 more per month than we had before... but it does throw me off a little.

I have also been accepted as a ChaCha guide. ChaCha is basically an SMS service for people (Infoseekers) on the go. If they don't have internet access on their phones, they can text their question in to ChaCha and it will be routed to a guide like me. Then I search for the answer (within the ChaCha system, on Google, etc) and provide the answer which is then sent to the Infoseeker. For every question answered, I get $0.20. I'm averaging between $6 - $8 per hour, which isn't too bad considering I can log into the system 24/7 in my pjs if I really wanted to. It's pretty fun and I feel like I'm learning a lot, too.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because I know of at least three people on my FL who are struggling with finances right now and could use a little extra cash every now and then. It does take around 4-6 weeks to get the payment options set up, but so far that's the only downside I've seen. I made $80 in about three days and Jerry signed up and made $25 working just a couple of hours over the last few days. The beauty of it is that you can work as much as you need to/want to.

There are a few requirements. First, you must be 18 or older and live in the U.S. You should be able to type quickly and efficiently, have good spelling and grammar and have decent experience finding various information on Google. It's pretty straightforward from there.

In other news, Jerry and I brought home an 8 week old kitten on Sunday. His name is Cotton and he's all white with blue eyes. He's such a sweetheart and still a total baby. He wants physical contact all the time and loves to be held and carried around. So cute! He reminds me of Yuna in the worst way, but I think that's exactly what I need in a kitty right now. I'll post some pictures/videos next time. ^^

FEMA came out at the last minute today to inspect the basement. They checked it out and acknowledge that there is damage, but have denied our application for assistance. Apparently they are only focusing on people who have lost their homes, despite there being hundreds, if not thousands of people like us who have minor damage, but no flood insurance to cover the cost of repairs. You can't even get flood insurance in this area. So what are we supposed to do?

It's not that I don't understand... I do. I know that there are families here who have nothing left. I agree that they should get as much assistance as possible. But why can't the government help everyone affected here, at least as much as they can? Isn't this part of the reason we pay taxes?

We've got at least $1000 worth of damage downstairs. The sub woofer to the theater system is warped and molding, every single wall has mold, the carpet tiles are molding, the couch is molding, there were boxes storing various things that now have water damage and growing mold. We can't afford this bullshit. I'm at a loss for words and the more I think about it, the angrier I become over the whole situation.

I just want to catch a break for once. >O

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

1. Name:
Bethany Joy Owens, or Bethy if we're close. People online know me as Sapphira and/or Sapphy.

2. Age:

3. Location:
Marion, Iowa... just about a mile away from Cedar Rapids.

4. Occupation:
Full time homemaker, though I am trying hard to built a supplementary income online as well.

5. Partner:
Jerry Owens. We met online in 2005 after getting out of bad relationships. Every attempt at taking it slow failed miserably. We were talking about marriage and kids in the first phone call and I knew almost immediately that he was "the one". I suppose finding out what I didn't want made me realize that he was everything I did want. I moved out here a year later in 2006, and then we got married in August 2007. He's the greatest blessing in my life and I love being married to him.

6. Kids:
None at the moment, but we're trying to get pregnant.

7. Brothers/Sisters:
I have three brothers, no sisters. Ian is 28, Ryan is 22 and Jordan, if he had lived, would be 26. I love them very much and miss them.

8. Pets:
We have one cat named Hime.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:

1. Divorce: My mother and father in law are getting a divorce. We are currently living in their old house, paying half of the mortgage payment and all of the bills while storing their things until the divorce is finalized and they come and deal with their stuff. The whole thing has been really hard, as they are the only family I have here in Iowa. It feels like the family is dissolving, and that is very upsetting to me. It's really stressful and it hurts. A lot.

2. Mother In Law: My MIL is coming to visit this Friday and stay for all of next week, which is going to be awkward after all that has happened. She has hurt us a lot over the last few months and it's going to be hard to deal with those feelings while she's here. I'm not looking forward to it at all.

3. Job: Jerry just started a new job at AEGON in Cedar Rapids. It's a stable company with great benefits and an opportunity to enroll in college on the company's dime after a year. He can also transfer to another location, one of which just happens to be located in Portland, Oregon. So the opportunity to move back "home" exists, which is an exciting possibility for us, especially given the recent events involving the divorce.

4. Babies: As mentioned earlier, we're planning a family right now. Getting pregnant is harder than I thought it would be, but I'm really enjoying this time in my life. Preparing for motherhood has been a wonderful journey so far. I hope to deliver good news about this soon. :)

10. What did you go to school for?
I didn't.

11. Parents:
I have the most amazing parents in the entire universe. They are the most caring, loving, giving, selfless people I know. If I can be even half the parent to my future children that my parents were (and still are!) to me, I will consider myself successful. I love my mom and dad. I would do anything for them.

12. Close Friends:
I am severely lacking in close friends at the moment. This is mostly because I have so much stuff going on in my life that I haven't had much of a chance to keep up with anyone or live up to the promises I've made. My closest friend is my husband, and really... I couldn't ask for a better friend. I do miss my girls though... Tashina and Kimly, especially. And I still think about Mallory every day, despite the distance between us. Know that even if I don't say it as much as I should, I love you guys dearly and that will never change, no matter how crazy life gets for me offline.
